Update - the minimum order on business email lists has been removed.
There are around 3 million businesses in the UK, of which around 1 million are active (the others are just business names that are registered but are not doing anything). The lists can be divided up and selected in many different ways - click on "Selections" top left for more information.
Around 60% of the active businesses have email. Those that don't are mostly the very small firms (one man bands such as painters and decorators, window cleaners or the village newsagent) and a smaller number of companies run by religious groups whose beliefs make them feel unable to use the system.
Of those left, around half have now been persuaded to opt in to our list of business lists - agreeing to receive relevant emails to a set address.
This address is normally in the form "person@company.co.uk" - although around 25% of companies do give us their name for our records together with an email address that reads "info@company.co.uk".
Among the lists you will find an increasing number of addresses that don't end .co.uk. From the start of email it has been possible to buy certain international addresses such as those ending .com, and in recent years many countries have opened their doors to all comers. Thus it is quite possible for a UK company to buy an email address ending .cc or .bz or .ac or even .us. Such purchases are becoming increasingly common as firms seek commonplace names which have long since been taken. To give but one example, when we wanted to set up a web site which dealt with copywriting there were none available in the .uk family of names. Eventually we bought exactly the name we wanted with .ac at the end - a perfectly usable name. It actually comes from the Ascension Islands, although we are firmly based in the UK.
If you are at any time interested in finding a particular name and don't mind too much about the appendage please do get in touch - call 01536 399 000. Research around the world is free for up to three names - the charge is normally around £60 for obtaining a name for a year.
